President Donald Trump said on Friday that the retaliatory US naval blockade against Iran in the Gulf of Oman will be lifted, noting that vessels previously affected by the blockade could now return home.
"Ships caught in the Strait due to our amazing and unprecedented Naval Blockade, which will now be lifted, may start the process of 'heading home!'" Trump said in a Truth Social post on Friday.
He added that Iran must permanently forgo nuclear weapons and allow unrestricted shipping traffic through the Strait of Hormuz for him to approve a deal to end the ongoing conflict.
Iran "must agree that they will never have a nuclear weapon or bomb," he said.
"The Hormuz Strait must be immediately open, no tolls, for unrestricted shipping traffic, in both directions," Trump said.
On Iran's nuclear program, Trump said the enriched material located at the site of last year's attacks on Iran's nuclear facilities will be "unearthed" by the US "in close coordination and conjunction" with Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency.
"No money will be exchanged, until further notice," Trump said. "Other items, of far less importance, have been agreed to."
Trump said he was heading to the Situation Room to make a final determination, without providing further details.
