Consumer prices in Japan's capital rose 1.7% year over year in June, as measured by the headline Tokyo consumer price index, according to data from the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications on Friday.
The latest pace of growth accelerated from the 1.4% increase the previous month, and was in line with the Trading Economics forecast of 1.7%.
Meanwhile, core CPI, which strips out fresh food items, edged up 1.6% in June, faster than the 1.3% increase the previous month.
Core-core CPI inflation, which excludes fresh food and energy prices, accelerated to 1.9% in June from 1.6% in May.
