Terra-Gen, a US-based developer and operator of utility-scale North American renewable energy projects, on Wednesday said its 125-megawatt Lockhart III solar project in San Bernardino County, California, has commenced commercial operations.
The project will use an existing connection to Southern California Edison's Kramer Junction Substation and will generate enough electricity to power about 62,500 homes and businesses annually, the company said in a statement.
The project has already secured long-term agreements from corporate buyers and California load serving entities.
The company is adding a further 80 MW of capacity at the site through the fourth phase of the Lockhart solar project, expected to be operational in Q3.
Terra-Gen, jointly owned by UAE-based clean energy company Masdar and investment manager Igneo Infrastructure Partners, has a gross operating portfolio of 4.2 gigawatts across wind, solar and battery storage projects.
This includes 5.6 GWh of energy storage facilities in 33 renewable power sites in the US, primarily in California and Texas, according to the company statement.
