Producer prices in South Korea increased 7.9% year over year in August, according to preliminary data from the Bank of Korea on Friday.
The reading compared with the 7.7% expansion recorded in the previous month, but was below the Trading Economics forecast of 8.1%.
The performance during the month was driven primarily by the manufacturing sector, which saw prices rise 12% from a year earlier, unchanged from the pace seen a month earlier. Within the sector, prices of coal and petroleum products surged 54.3% year over year, accelerating from the 52% growth in July.
