Shell Joins Bidders for Norway's 2026 Oil, Gas Exploration Round

Shell (SHEL.L, SHELL.AS) unit Norske Shell is among the 21 companies that applied for new production licenses in the Norwegian energy ministry's 2026 licensing round on the Norwegian continental shelf, according to a Friday release.

The British oil giant joined the latest Awards in Predefined Areas, or APA, following its absence from the 2025 licensing round, which received applications from 20 companies. Other bidders include Aker BP (AKRBP.OL), DNO (DNO.OL), Equinor (EQNR.OL), Harbour Energy (HBR.L), OKEA (OKEA.OL), OMV (OMV.VI), Orlen (PKN.WA), Petrolia (PSE.OL), Repsol (REP.MC), TotalEnergies (TTE.L, TTE.PA), and Vår Energi (VAR.OL).

This year's predefined area expanded in the North Sea, the Norwegian Sea and the Barents Sea by a total of 70 blocks. The awarding of the new production licenses is targeted for early 2027.

Shell to Sell Interest in US Gas Turbine Power Plant for $715 Million

Shell (SHEL.L, SHELL.AS) said Thursday it agreed to divest its interests in a gas turbine power plant in the US to energy production company Constellation Energy Generation for $715 million.The European oil and gas company's Shell Energy North America (US) subsidiary will transfer the interests in Risec Holdings, which owns the 609-megawatt, two-unit combined cycle gas turbine power plant, as part of the transaction.Completion is expected in the first quarter of 2027, subject to regulatory approvals.

Shell Unit to Acquire 169-MW Hunlock Power Plant in US

Shell (SHEL.L, SHELL.AS) said Thursday its subsidiary Shell Energy North America agreed to acquire 100% of Hunlock Creek Generating LLC, which owns 169 megawatts of natural gas-fired generation capacity in Pennsylvania, US.Owned by Riverview Power Holdings LLC, Hunlock comprises a two-unit, 125-megawatt combined-cycle power plant and a 44-megawatt simple-cycle peaking plant.The acquisition is expected to boost the Shell unit's access to power supply and capacity offtake in the Mid-Atlantic grid operated by PJM Interconnection, the biggest wholesale electricity market and grid operator in the US.
