Energy stocks were higher Monday afternoon, with the NYSE Energy Sector Index rising 0.7% and the State Street Energy Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLE) adding 0.9%.
The Philadelphia Oil Service Sector Index was fractionally higher, and the Dow Jones US Utilities Index was decreasing 0.6%.
Front-month West Texas Intermediate crude oil rose 1% to $83.25 a barrel, and the global benchmark Brent crude contract added 1.3% to $89.63 a barrel. Henry Hub natural gas futures fell 1.6% to $2.69 per 1 million BTU.
In corporate news, Equinor (EQNR) agreed to acquire 88% of Lackawanna Energy Center's Class A shares for $940 million from funds managed by BlackRock's (BLK) Global Infrastructure Partners. Equinor shares rose 1.9%.
