Sector Update: Consumer Stocks Decline Late Afternoon

Consumer stocks were lower late Monday afternoon, with the State Street Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLP) falling 1% and the State Street Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLY) dropping 2%.

In corporate news, the United Auto Workers has called a strike at a Michigan factory owned by Dauch (DCH), a supplier of axles and driveline components for General Motors (GM) pickup trucks. GM shares were down 0.5%, and Dauch fell nearly 5%.

MGM Resorts International (MGM) shares jumped past 16% after the firm confirmed that it received an offer from People Inc. (IAC) to acquire all MGM shares that it does not already own for $48.30 per share in cash.

Taylor Morrison Home (TMHC) shares surged 22% after the homebuilder agreed to be acquired and taken private by conglomerate Berkshire Hathaway (BRK.A, BRK.B) in an all-cash deal with an equity value of about $6.8 billion.

Winnebago Industries (WGO) shares fell 2% after Northcoast downgraded the stock to neutral from buy.

The shares jumped 9.4%.

Sector Update: Healthcare Stocks Fall Late Afternoon

Healthcare stocks declined late Monday afternoon, with the NYSE Healthcare Index falling 1.4% and the State Street Health Care Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLV) dropping 1.1%.The iShares Biotechnology ETF (IBB) shed 1.4%.In corporate news, Cardiff Oncology (CRDF) shares tumbled past 21% after HC Wainwright downgraded the stock to neutral from buy, and TD Cowen to hold from buy.GRAIL (GRAL) stock dropped 9.7% after the company said the NHS-Galleri trial of its Galleri multi-cancer early detection test missed its primary endpoint.Jasper Therapeutics (JSPR) shares tumbled 32% after the firm said its board has launched a review of strategic alternatives, including a sale of assets, a sale of the company, merger, or an orderly wind-down of operations.Edgewise Therapeutics (EWTX) has agreed to sell its muscular dystrophy business to Servier for up to $2.65 billion, Servier said Monday. Energy stocks were higher late Monday afternoon, with the NYSE Energy Sector Index rising 1.8% and the State Street Energy Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLE) adding 2%.The Philadelphia Oil Service Sector Index increased 0.9%, and the Dow Jones US Utilities Index fell 2.7%.Front-month West Texas Intermediate jumped 5.5% to $92.14 a barrel, and the global benchmark Brent crude contract climbed 4.2% to $94.97 a barrel. Henry Hub natural gas futures fell 3.6% to $3.17 per 1 million BTU.In corporate news, Kazakhstan has restored its oil production to 290,000 metric tons a day following an accident that caused production losses at its largest oilfield, Tengiz, led by Chevron (CVX), Reuters reported, citing the country's Energy Minister Erlan Akkenzhenov. Chevron shares were up 2.3%.
