Scotiabank Appoints European Banking Veteran to Board

Scotiabank (BNS.TO) appointed European banking veteran Ralph Hamers to its board, effective immediately, the bank said on Tuesday.

Hamers was group chief executive officer of UBS Group from 2020 to 2023 and chief executive officer of ING Group from 2013 to 2020, a statement said.

"[Hamers'] expertise in digital transformation and innovation, and his global banking perspective, will be invaluable as the board continues to support the bank's strategy to deliver more value for clients and shareholders," said board chair Aaron Regent.

Scotiabank shares were last seen up C$0.39, to C$127.26, on the Toronto Stock Exchange.

Silver Storm Mining Closes Final Tranche of Private Placement, Raises Total C$21 Million

Silver Storm Mining (SVRS.V) said Monday it closed the second and final tranche of its non-brokered private placement, raising gross proceeds of C$6.38 million. The company issued 12.75 million units at C$0.50 apiece in the second tranche.Together with the first tranche, Silver Storm issued a total of 42 million units for aggregate gross proceeds of C$21 million.Silver Storm said it plans to use the net proceeds mainly for surface and underground drilling at the La Parrilla Silver Mine Complex and for working capital.
