The S&P/TSX Composite Index was up 120 points mid-morning Tuesday on mixed sectors.
The financials sector, up 1.1%, is the best performer. BMO (BMO.TO) and Scotiabank (BNS.TO) this morning reported third-quarter earnings beats.
Limiting gains were declines in energy, down 1.3%, as crude oil prices fell after the US moved to economic sanctions against Iran, instead of military conflict.
In other news, the Canadian government will announce details of retaliatory tariffs against the US at 11 am ET today, CBC reported. The counter-tariffs will come into effect on Sept. 8.
