The S&P/TSX Composite Index was last seen up 275 points mid-morning Tuesday, buoyed by gains in the information technology and healthcare sectors.
Technology stocks were the strongest performer, jumping 2.7%, followed by healthcare, which was 2.4% higher on last look.
The financials sector was the weakest performer, shedding 0.6%.
In stocks, Silver Tiger Metals (SLVR.TO) shares fell 23% to CA$0.90, after the company said Monday afternoon that the capital expenditure forecast for the El Tigre project jumped by $37 million, to $124 million.
In other news, the Carney government tabled Bill C-39, the Building Canada Strong Act on Monday. Among other things, the Bill promises efficient federal reviews and decisions, simplifying Canada's regulatory regime and modernizing the country's transportation system.
