The S&P/TSX Composite Index was last seen up 20 points in choppy trade mid-morning Monday, buoyed by rising shares in the information technology and financial sectors.
Technology stocks were the strongest performer, jumping 1.2%, followed by financials, which was 1% higher on last look.
The energy sector was the weakest performer, shedding 2% as oil prices tumbled Monday morning.
In stocks, Vista Gold (VGZ.TO) jumped 15.3% to CA$3.69 per share, after the company said it was being acquired by Artemis Gold (ARTG.V) in an all-shares transaction that valued the company at $427 million.
In other news, Canada's Parliament resumes Monday, with several media outlets noting that the government is expected to introduce an economic bill.
