Redbook US same-store sales rose by 8.7% from a year earlier in the week ended Aug. 1 after an 8.3% year-over-year increase in the previous week.
"Shoppers took advantage of the annual sales tax holidays for school supplies and clothing in Arkansas, New Mexico, Tennessee, and West Virginia," Redbook said.
Retailers also offered promotions, both in physical stores and online, Redbook added.
Through the fourth selling week for July, sales were up 8.2% compared with July 2025, below the target for an 8.6% gain, Redbook said.
Redbook's initial forecast predicts an 8.8% increase in same-store sales for August.
