QatarEnergy called the explosion and fire at the Barzan local natural gas supply facility in the Ras Laffan Industrial City on Sunday, "an operational accident," and not an act of sabotage or an outcome of external hostilities.
The company said the incident, which claimed 13 lives and injured 66 others, occurred just two days after the facility resumed operations, following a months-long shutdown that began all the way back in December 2025 for urgent maintenance work.
It said that work was underway to assess the extent of damage to the Barzan, as well as its neighboring plants and facilities, while authorities begin a full investigation to determine the cause of the incident.
The company noted that its LNG facilities, the Ras Laffan Port, and other logistics operations and export capabilities remained unaffected by this incident.
