Nuclear technology company Oklo (OKLO) has secured a final safety approval from the US Department of Energy for its Groves advanced reactor pilot in Texas, the company said on Wednesday.
The milestone permits the facility to advance toward fuel loading and a targeted commercial criticality deadline, it said, and for it to begin readiness evaluations.
Upon completing the final pre-startup reviews, Oklo will be authorized to receive and load nuclear fuel, execute initial systems testing, and target first criticality, which the company expects to reach this month, the company said.
The company noted that the pilot platform is engineered to validate scalable, domestic production procedures for commercial isotopes, which face supply-chain vulnerability due to reliance on aging infrastructure and foreign imports.
