The US National Weather Service on Tuesday said the region stretching from Texas to the Northeast could expect showers and thunderstorms through Tuesday, with similar conditions also expected to develop over the Northwest.
Heavy rains are expected to result in localized flash flooding areas throughout the central Gulf Coast into the Appalachians.
Meanwhile, Oregon and Nevada are expected to encounter elevated to critical fire weather conditions due to gusty winds and low humidity.
The NWS issued a red flag warning early Tuesday for Montana's Plentywood, Glasgow, Sidney, Circle, Terry, and Glendive. MDU Resources (MDU) unit Montana-Dakota Utilities is among the major service providers in these places.
In New Mexico, the NWS issued a flash flood warning for Hobbs, and parts of Artesia and Carlsbad. TXNM Energy (TXNM) unit Public Service Co. of New Mexico and Xcel Energy (XEL) are among the primary electricity suppliers in New Mexico.
A similar warning was raised for Morton in Texas, also served by Xcel Energy; and for Asheville in North Carolina, which falls under the service area of Duke Energy (DUK).
The NWS issued a flood warning for Ohio's Columbus, and for areas near Findlay, Mansfield and Canton. First Energy (FE) subsidiary Ohio Edison, and the Ohio units of American Electric Power (AEP) and AES (AES) are among the major electricity providers in the affected areas.
In Mississippi, a flood warning was raised for Greenwood, Meridian, Hattiesburg, and Gulfport. The state is primarily served by Entergy (ETR) and Southern Company's (SO) Mississippi units.
Indiana's Vincennes, Jasper, Seymour were also placed under a similar warning. Duke Energy is among the major service provider in these places.
The NWS also issued flood warnings for small pockets of Louisiana, Virginia, and Washington.
