The US National Weather Service said the central Plains to the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast US is likely to experience severe thunderstorms on Monday.
Meanwhile, hazardous heat is forecast across the southern US, which is expected to extend into the West through mid-week. Interior Alaska and the Four Corners region are expected to encounter fire weather conditions, the agency said.
The NWS issued a red flag warning early Monday for Colorado's Aspen, Buena Vista, Gunnison, Montrose, Nucla, Telluride, Lake City, Cortez, Durango, Alamosa, Pagosa Springs, and Grand Junction. Xcel Energy (XEL) and Black Hills (BKH) unit Black Hills Energy are the primary service providers in the state.
A similar wasring was raised for Idaho's Arco, Shoshone, Twin Falls, Burley, Hailey and Pocatello, where Idacorp's (IDA) Idaho Power is the major service provider.
An extreme heat warning was issued for Arizona's Grand Canyon Village, primarily served by Pinnacle West Capital's (PNW) unit Arizona Public Service Company.
In Oklahoma, the NWS issued a tornado warning for Stillwater, while a severe thunderstorm warning was raised for Ponca City, Enid, Oklahoma City, Chickasha, Hobart, Clinton, and Beaver. Meanwhile, a flood warning was issued for Grove. OGE Energy (OGE) unit Oklahoma Gas & Electric and American Electric Power (AEP) subsidiary Public Service Co. of Oklahoma are the major electric utility service providers in the state.
Also placed under a flood warning were Arkansas City, Iola, Fredonia, Coffeyville, Kingman, Anthony, Wellington, Oberlin, Colby, and Oakley in Kansas. Evergy (EVRG) is among the major electricity providers in Kansas.
Affected areas in Texas included Beaumont, Lufkin, Bryan, George West, Centerville, Orange, Kirbyville, and Hearne. These places are majorly served by the Texas units of American Electric Power and Entergy (ETR), and Centrepoint Energy (CNP).
Also placed under a flood warning watch were Louisiana's Lake Charles, De Quincy, Jennings, Oberlin, Glenmora, Marksville, Opelousas, and areas bordering Mississippi. Entergy's Louisiana unit, American Electric Power's Southwestern Electric Power Company, and Cleco are among the major service providers in Louisiana.
Mississippi's Hattiesburg, Gulfport, Vicksburg, Brookhaven, Laurel, Meridian, and Jackson, primarily served by Southern Company (SO) unit Mississippi Power, were also listed under a flood warning watch.
The NWS also issued flood warnings for Pensacola and DeFuniak Springs in Florida, where NextEra Energy (NEE) unit Florida Power & Light Company is the primary service provider; and Demopolis, Monroeville, Brewton and Mobile in Alabama, primarily served by Southern Company unit Alabama Power.
In Illinois, a flood warning was raised for Ottawa, Peru, Peoria, Canton, Galesburg, Havana, Macomb, Jacksonville, Champaign, Decatur, Pekin, Olney, and Effingham, while small pockets were covered under a flash flood warning watch. Ameren's Illinois unit and Exelon (EXC) subsidiary ComEd are among the major service providers in Illinois.
Indiana's Vincennes, Crawfordsville, Terre Haute, Gary, and Greensburg were also covered under a flood warning, while Jasper, Petersburg, and parts of Vincennes were placed under a flash flood warning watch. Duke Energy (DUK), the Indiana unit of AES (AES), and CenterPoint Energy are among the major electricity providers in these places.
In Kentucky, a flash flood warning was raised for Owensboro and areas near Elizabethtown, while a flood warning was issued for Louisville. Parts of Elizabethtown was also covered under a severe thunderstorm warning watch.
The NWS also issued flood warnings for certain pockets of Washington, Missouri, and Iowa.
