The region stretching from the Intermountain West through the northern Plains is likely to experience record setting heat over the next several days, with increasing risks of fire weather conditions due to the presence of dry and breezy conditions, according to the latest US National Weather Service advisory issued Sunday.
Meanwhile, the central Gulf Coast and central Texas is expected to face threats related to heavy rainfall and severe thunderstorm this week, the agency said.
The NWS early Monday issued an extreme heat warning for the entirety of North Dakota. Xcel Energy (XEL), MDU Resources (MDU) unit Montana-Dakota Utilities and Otter Tail's (OTTR) Otter Tail Power are among the major electric service providers in the state.
In Idaho, an extreme heat warning was raised for Shoeshone, Burley, Malad City, Pocatello, Blackfoot, Idaho Falls, Rigby, Palisades, Driggs, Preston, Rexburg and parts of Soda Springs, served by Idacorp's (IDA) Idaho Power and Rocky Mountain Power.
A similar warning was raised for Montana's Roseau, Thief River Falls, Bemidji, Detroit Lakes, Grand Maraias, Fergus Falls, International Falls, Hibbing, Ely, Duluth, Grand Maraias, Brainerd, Hinckley, Minneapolis, St. Pauls, Redwing, Mankato and Marshall. Otter Tail (OTTR) unit Otter Tail Power, Allette (ALE) subsidiary Minnesota Power, Xcel Energy, and Alliant Energy (LNT) among the service providers in the state.
Affected areas un Itah included Wendover, Logan, Brigham City, Provo, Tooele, Park City, Ogden, Salt Lake City, Vernal, Duchesne, Green River, Moab, Price, Manti, Delta, Nephi, Milford, Richfield, Cedar City, St. George, Zion National Park, Escalante, Capitol Reef National Park, Bryce Canyon National Park, and areas near Bluff. The state primarily falls under the service area of PacifiCorp's Rocky Mountain Power.
Also covered under the same warning were Wisconin's Hayward, Park Falls, Rice Lake, and Eau Claire, where Xcel Energy is the major service provider. Michigan's Houghton, Ironwood, Marquette, Iron Mountain, Escanaba and Menominee were also placed under the extreme heat warning watch. WEC Energy Group (WEC) subsidiaries Upper Michigan Energy Resources and We Energies, Upper Peninsula Power Company, and Xcel Energy are among the major service providers in these places.
In Montana, an extreme heat warning was issued for Harlowtown, Bozeman, Round-up, Broadus, Ekalaka, Miles City, Livingston, Billings and Red Lodge, while parts of Red Lodge was also covered under a red flag warning watch. Northwestern Energy (NWE) and Montana-Dakota Utilities are among the primary service providers in these places.
The NWS issued an extreme heat warning for Wyoming's Sheridan, Cody, Greybull, Buffalo, Worland, Thermopolis, Dubois, Riverton, Casper, Pinedale, Apton, Jackson, Lander, Big Piney, Kemmerer, Evanston, Casper, Rocksprings, Kaycee, and Muddy Gap. Meanwhile, a red flag warning was raised for Baggs, Shirley Basin, Bill, Glenrock, Lance Creek, Douglas, Rusk, Glendo, Garrett, Wheatland, Torrington, Medicine Bow, Elk Mountain, Chug Water, Pine Bluffs, Cheyenne, and Centennial. The state primarily falls under the service area of Rocky Mountain Power.
South Dakota's Buffalo, Faith, Dupree, Fourche, Spearfish, Sturgis, Rapid City, Wall, Philip, Kadoka, Edmemont, Hot Springs, Hermosa, Lemmon and Pine Ridge were placed under a red flag warning watch, while Mobridge was covered by an extreme heat warning watch. Xcel Energy, Northwestern Energy, Montana-Dakota Utilities, Otter Tail Power, and Black Hills Energy are among the major electric utility service providers operating in the state.
A red flag warning was also raised for Nebraska's Harrison, Chadron, Alliance, Scottsbluff, Bridgeport, Harrisburg, Kimball, and Sidney. A major part of the state is covered under the service area of regional transmission organization Southwest Power Pool, with Midcontinent ISO also serving some areas.
The NWS issued placed areas near Sierra Vista and Bisbee in Arizona under warnings for severe thunderstorms and flash floods. The state is primarily served by Pinnacle West Capital (PNW) unit Arizona Public Service Company, and UNS Energy subsidiaries Unisource and Tucson Electric Power.
A flash flood warning was also issued for Snyder in Texas, Hickory in South Carolina, and Morristown in Tennessee.
The NWS also issued flood warnings for small pockets of Illinois, Iowa, and Missouri.
