Neurizon Therapeutics (ASX:NUZ) said the US National Institutes of Health (NIH) has awarded a multimillion-dollar, multi-year grant to support an expanded access protocol (EAP) for its investigational amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) therapy NUZ-001, according to a Wednesday filing with the Australian bourse.
The program is expected to provide up to 200 ALS patients who are ineligible for clinical trials with access to NUZ-001 for up to 96 weeks, alongside the ongoing phase two and three Healey ALS platform trial, per the filing.
The company will serve as the regulatory sponsor and provide the drug, while the Healey and AMG Center for ALS will oversee clinical operations, the filing said.
The EAP is fully funded by the NIH and is expected to involve about 20 clinical sites across the US, alongside a national virtual site, with enrolment targeted to begin in the first quarter of 2027, subject to regulatory and operational approvals, the filing added.
The company's shares jumped 31% in recent Wednesday trade.
