Multiple merchant vessels faced disabling fire in the Northern Arabian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman from ongoing military activity, the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations said in an alert on Wednesday.
"Reports indicate the vessels were subject to disabling fire as part of ongoing military activity in the region. UKMTO is unable to confirm if any casualties or environmental impact has occurred at this time," the agency said.
The concerned authorities are aware of the situation and an investigation is taking place, the UKMTO said.
In a separate third-party reported incident about 24 nautical miles northwest of Port Rashid, UAE, a vessel was spotted listing during anchor, potentially signaling water ingress after becoming the target of an unknown projectile, the agency said.
