Motorola Solutions (MSI) said Monday that it agreed to acquire Israel-based D-Fend Solutions in a deal worth $1.5 billion as the company looks to expand its portfolio into the counter-drone technology space.
Motorola, which provides safety and security solutions, said securing the airspace against unauthorized drones is becoming a "rapidly increasing global necessity."
The ongoing Middle East conflict has seen drone and missile attacks across the Gulf region. Separately, a drone resulted in authorities temporarily shutting down Munich Airport in southern Germany on Saturday, Reuters reported.
D-Fend Solutions' technology, which is being used by government, public safety and enterprise organizations across more than 30 countries, safely brings rogue drones to the ground, Motorola said. The Israeli company is expected to generate revenue of $185 million for 2026.
"Rogue drones have transformed our skies into a landscape of unpredictable risk, where simple detection is no longer enough," Motorola Chief Executive Greg Brown said in a statement. "With D-Fend, drone threats are not just identified -- their communications are overridden and redirected, safely bringing them to the ground, keeping people and communities safe."
Shares of Motorola rose 2.5% in Monday trade, with the stock having gained 7.8% so far this year.
The deal, which requires approval from regulators, is expected to complete in the fourth quarter.
"By leveraging Motorola Solutions' deep expertise and long-term customer relationships across public safety, federal and enterprise, we can deliver even greater impact to the communities and organizations we serve," D-Fend Solutions CEO Zohar Halachmi said in the statement.
Last year, Motorola acquired Silvus Technologies, a provider of mission-critical mobile ad-hoc networks.
In May, Motorola said it expected adjusted earnings between $16.87 and $16.99 per share for 2026 on revenue of roughly $12.8 billion. The current consensus on FactSet is for non-GAAP EPS of $16.96 and sales of $12.79 billion.
