Japanese shipping company Mitsui OSK Lines said Thursday it has signed a long-term time charter contract with power producer Jera for two very large gas carriers that will transport low-carbon ammonia.
Under the agreement, ammonia will be transported from the Blue Point Project in Louisiana to Jera's Hekinan Thermal Power Station in Japan, according to the company's statement. Jera has investments in the ammonia project.
Mitsui and Jera have finalized the contract, that is set to begin in fiscal year 2029, following a memorandum of understanding executed in 2025.
The companies aim "to establish a commercial-scale value chain for low-carbon ammonia," the statement said.
