Mediators are reportedly waiting for Iran and Oman to finalize a deal on management of the Strait of Hormuz before seeking to resume US-Iran talks, media outlets reported Tuesday, citing Qatar's Foreign Ministry spokesperson Majed Al-Ansari.
The ministry did not immediately respond to' request for comment.
Iran and Oman have already agreed on a transit plan for ships along the strait, and are now working on a joint statement, according to reports.
However, US President Donald Trump on Monday threatened to bomb Oman if it "gets in the way" of his efforts to end the war and reopen the strait.
Trump also said the US is not seeking to extend the memorandum of understanding with Iran, following its expiration on Monday.
Iran, meanwhile, reportedly said that the 60-day negotiation period was "entirely moot" due to US violations of the MoU, and that it is ready to respond if attacked.
