At least three foreign oil tankers seeking passage through the Strait of Hormuz retreated after a warning by Iran's IRGC against crossing the crucial waterway without authorization, Al Jazeera reported Friday, citing Iranian state broadcaster IRIB.
IRGC has further asserted that transit through the Hormuz Strait, which handled about 20% of global energy flows before the Middle East conflict, can only take place along routes designated by Iran, IRIB said, according to Al Jazeera.
On Thursday, the International Maritime Organization suspended its evacuation operations in and around the Strait of Hormuz following an attack on a commercial vessel in the Gulf of Oman, to reassess safety conditions amid rising regional risks.
While Iran has not claimed responsibility for the attack, it has warned on multiple occasions against crossing the Hormuz Strait without its approval, the report said.
