A temporary waiver of sanctions on Russian seaborne oil expired earlier this week and is yet to be extended by the US Department of Treasury amid lack of clarity on whether Trump administration is considering reimposing the measures, Reuters reported Wednesday.
The temporary waiver was meant to help countries combat the energy supply crisis that resulted from the Iran war. However, the memorandum of understanding between US and Iran to end the war is expected to enable Middle Eastern oil reach global markets again.
While the administration did not specify whether the US would reimpose sanctions on Russia on Wednesday, Donald Trump had a day before indicated that such a move was possible. The US has previously allowed the waiver to end and then extended it a few days later, the report added.
