The number of vessels crossing the Strait of Hormuz was far below the 10-day moving average on Tuesday, at three vessels versus 15, according to preliminary shipping data cited by Reuters on Wednesday.

The news agency said the number could later rise if it becomes known that some ships made the crossing with their transponders switched off, to avoid detection and diminish the risk of coming under attack from Iran, whose threats against ships have effectively closed the strait.
