A southern Texas shipping channel in Corpus Christi, Texas, a major route for US energy transport, was forced to close on Wednesday after a man doing 'donuts' in a pickup truck on the beach apparently lost control of the vehicle and entered the water, Reuters reported, citing the US Coast Guard.
The incident halted traffic through the shipping route, according to the publication, citing the Coast Guard, while LSEG ship tracking data showed no Wednesday afternoon movement of tankers carrying crude oil, refined petroleum products or liquefied natural gas.
The man accidentally drove the vehicle into the water early in the morning while spinning the truck on the beach, according to local newspaper Port Aransas South Jetty's post on Facebook, which said police were planning to recover the vehicle, the article said.
The driver managed to escape the vehicle and, apparently unharmed, was arrested at or near Horace Caldwell Pier, according to an update by the newspaper. A later Facebook post showed a video of the vehicle being dragged out of the water with a cable attached to its front end.
