Market Chatter: South Korean SME Business Sentiment Improves for Second Month, Remains Pessimistic

The business sentiment for South Korean small and midsized enterprises improved for a second straight month in September; however, it remained below expectations, Yonhap News Agency reported Aug. 30, citing a Korea Federation of SMEs survey conducted between Aug. 12 and 19.

The small business health index rose 4.8 points from August to 84.8, a survey of 3,060 companies showed. A reading below 100 indicates that pessimists outnumber optimists.

Meanwhile, the small business health index for the manufacturing sector rose 7 points to 87.1, while that for the nonmanufacturing companies' index rose 3.7 points to 83.7, the report said.

New Zealand Lending Grows in July as Housing, Agricultural Loans Rise

New Zealand's lending from registered banks and non-bank lending institutions increased in July, driven by growth in housing and agricultural lending, while personal consumer and business lending edged lower compared with the previous month, according to data from the Reserve Bank of New Zealand released on Monday.Total housing loans from registered banks and non-bank lending institutions in New Zealand grew to NZ$401.94 billion in July from NZ$400.51 billion in June.
