NTT Data Group (TYO:9613) plans to invest a minimum of $9 billion over the next seven years to quadruple its computing capacity to 1 gigawatt, Bloomberg News reported Tuesday, citing people familiar with the matter.
The country's largest data center operator aims to add roughly 750 megawatts of capacity, with each megawatt estimated to cost 2 billion yen to 2.5 billion yen for construction and equipment, excluding AI accelerators, the news wire said.
The expansion comes as Japanese companies race to catch up in artificial intelligence, with the government-backed firm keeping the discussions private, the publication said.
