Iran's Revolutionary Guard has shot down an American MQ-9 Reaper drone after it violated Iranian airspace, Al Jazeera reported on Tuesday, citing the IRGC.
According to Al Jazeera's report, the IRGC intercepted the unmanned aircraft after it allegedly violated Iranian airspace, warning that Tehran reserves the "legitimate and definite" right to respond to any US breaches.
The downing of the drone comes on the heels of targeted overnight military action.
US forces executed live-fire "self-defense" strikes in southern Iran to neutralize immediate threats to naval forces and trade routes, several media outlets reported, citing Centcom.
The escalation occurred exactly as top negotiators from Tehran arrived in Qatar to hash out points of contention for a potential peace framework to end the US-Israel war on Iran.
