Alphabet's (GOOG, GOOGL) Google is revamping its artificial intelligence coding strike team to close the gap with Anthropic in the most profitable AI applications, The Information reported Thursday, citing sources familiar with the changes.
The team, formed only months ago, will see its scope expanded to include training Google's AI models to improve abilities in coding and business functions, according to the report.
The move comes as AI researcher Noam Shazeer departed to join OpenAI, while executive John Jumper said he was headed to Anthropic, the report said. On Wednesday, Bloomberg reported that AI researchers Jonas Adler and Alexander Pritzel were also leaving Google.
Google did not immediately reply to' request for comment.
