BYD (HKG:1211, SHE:002594) is looking to dethrone Toyota (TYO:7203) as the world's largest car manufacturer by sales within five years even without the help of the U.S. market, the Financial Times reported Wednesday, citing its interview with Stella Li, the chief of BYD's international operations.
The Shenzhen-based car manufacturer is looking to boost sales through a pivot to Europe, where electric vehicles could gain heftier margins compared with China, the report said, citing Li.
