A crude tanker carrying about 2 million barrels of Iraqi oil is heading to Europe, marking the first such shipment since early March amid the ongoing Middle East conflict, Al Jazeera reported on Wednesday, citing Kpler data.
The Marshall Islands-flagged vessel transited the Strait of Hormuz on May 27 without disclosing its destination. On Monday, it switched on its Automatic Identification System to signal "NL RTM", the code for Rotterdam, and is expected to arrive on July 7.
The tanker loaded crude at Iraq's Basra terminals on Feb. 24 and March 1 and is currently sailing off Madagascar's coast, according to the report.
The crude shipment is the first Europe-bound to pass through the Hormuz since March 1, when another tanker left the Gulf amid market turbulence triggered by the US-Israeli alliance's strikes on Iran beginning Feb. 28.
Since March 1, about 103 tankers have exited the Gulf via Hormuz carrying a combined 185 million barrels of crude.
