Lithium Africa (LAF.V) appointed James Chabata as chief financial officer, effective Oct. 1, subject to regulatory approvals, it said Tuesday.
Chabata succeeds Jamie Robinson, who will step down as CFO and will remain with the company until the end of 2026, said the company.
Chabata joins the company from Montage Gold (MAU.TO), said the company. He has also served as Finance and Administration Manager at Leo Lithium Limited, it added.
He has also held roles at B2Gold (BTO.TO) in Mali, First Quantum Minerals (FM.TO) in Mauritania, Resolute Mining in Mali, and Teranga Gold in Senegal, said Lithium Africa.
"James has built finance functions in the locations where we operate - through construction and into production at the Goulamina lithium mine in Mali, and for a Canadian-listed developer in Cote d'Ivoire," said Chief Executive Officer Thomas Benson. "He knows OHADA, IFRS, and joint venture accounting, and brings on the ground cost control expertise."
The company's shares were last seen down C$0.07, or 4.4%, to C$1.53 on the TSX Venture Exchange.
