Kioxia Ordered to Pay $229 Million in U.S. Patent Infringement Judgment

A U.S. federal court issued a judgment against Kioxia and Kioxia America on July 31, ordering them to pay $229 million or 36.6 billion yen) in damages to Viasat for patent infringement.

The case, originally filed in November 2021, alleged that certain Kioxia products violated one of Viasat's patent claims, according to a Tokyo bourse filing on Monday.

Kioxia strongly disagrees with the ruling and plans to pursue post-trial motions and potentially an appeal to overturn the decision.

The company has already recorded the full $229 million as litigation loss provisions for the first quarter of fiscal year ending March 2027, while stating the judgment does not affect its ability to serve customers.
