Joby Aviation Completes First Autonomous Cross-Country Flight Across US

Joby Aviation (JOBY) said Friday that an aircraft featuring its autonomous technology has completed the first self-flying trip across the US.

The converted Cessna Caravan flew 3,199 miles to North Carolina without control inputs from its safety pilot, the company said.

Remote supervisors oversaw taxiing, takeoff, navigation, and landing from ground locations in California and South Carolina, and the plane altered its course around bad weather and navigated congested airspace during the journey, Joby said.
