Japan's tertiary industry activity index fell a seasonally adjusted 0.2% month on month in June, according to data from the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) released Monday.
The reading missed the consensus forecast of a 1.2% increase tracked by Trading Economics and compared with a 0.8% rise in the previous month.
The monthly performance was driven primarily by a 1.8% decline in the services value of the retail trade sector, including a 6.1% fall in the electricity, gas, heat supply, and water sectors.
