Japan's Reuters Tankan Manufacturing Sentiment Surges to Near Five-Year High in September

Sentiment among major Japanese manufacturers turned more upbeat in September, with the latest Reuters Tankan manufacturing sentiment jumping to +21 from +18 the previous month, according to survey data published Wednesday.

The latest print marked the highest reading since December 2021, topping the Trading Economics forecast of a decline to +15 points. It marked the 18th consecutive month that sentiment was positive among manufacturers in Japan.

Meanwhile, the non-manufacturers' sentiment index likewise climbed to +29 from +28 the previous month following improvements in real estate and construction, and transport and utilities that offset the drop in sentiment among information and communications companies.

The poll, carried out from Aug. 26 to Sept. 4, obtained responses from 224 out of the 510 companies surveyed, Reuters said.

The consensus forecast was for a 30% rise.

Chinese Shares Rise on Financial Support Measures Ahead of Trade, Inflation Data

Chinese stocks opened higher Tuesday, buoyed by recent state-backed financial support measures and ahead of August inflation and trade data.The Shanghai Composite Index, the main gauge of Chinese stocks, climbed 0.3% to 3,935.55.
