Japan's foreign reserves narrowed by $79.6 billion in August from the previous month, according to data from the Ministry of Finance on Monday.
Official reserve assets as of the end of August fell to $1.208 trillion from $1.287 trillion at the end of July.
Of the total, foreign securities assets reached $839.6 billion, down from $927.3 billion the previous month, while deposits fell to $155.4 billion from $162.3 billion previously.
Japan's IMF reserve position stayed flat at $11.4 billion, while its holdings of special drawing rights edged up to $61.2 billion from $60.7 billion.
