Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said it will extend a restricted maritime area stretching from Chabahar into parts of the Gulf of Oman and the Arabian Sea, multiple media outlets reported Wednesday, citing state-owned publications quoting an IRGC spokesperson.
The coordinates and the boundaries of the zone will reportedly be published shortly.
Ships entering the restricted zone will be sanctioned, Al Jazeera reported.
On Sunday, Mohsen Rezaei, secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, said Iran intends to create a restricted zone near the Strait of Hormuz within days, Al Jazeera reported.
Iran's Ministry of Foreign Affairs did not immediately respond to' request for comment.
