Export expectations among German companies "considerably" brightened in August, boosted by shipments to the European Union, the ifo Institute said Wednesday.
The ifo export expectations climbed to 9.6 points from -2.8 points in the previous month, marking the highest reading since February 2022. The increase also marks the fastest since June 2020.
Based on the survey, manufacturers of electrical equipment, data processing equipment and electronic and optical products remain "very optimistic" about their export prospects, mainly due to rising digitalization and artificial intelligence investments. On the flip side, companies in the paper, metal production and processing sectors forecast a decline in their exports.
