An HPQ Silicon (HPQ.V) lithium-ion cell platform has achieved UL 1642 safety certification, paving the way for the commercialization of its latest silicon-anode battery technology, the company said on Monday.
The independent certification confirms that HPQ's latest-generation cell platform, the Endura+ GEN4 21700, complies with UL 1642, an international safety standard for commercial lithium-ion cells.
With this certification complete, HPQ will support customer evaluation and battery integration programs, and continue commercial discussions with prospective industrial partners, a statement said. The company will advance additional certification activities to boost broader commercial deployment.
The Gen4 platform is certified at 6,500 milliampere-hour (mAh), an 8.3% increase in capacity over HPQ's previously certified Gen3 platform.
