Hong Kong stocks fell at the start of Wednesday's trading session, following a selloff in major bond markets fueled by inflation fears amid rising crude prices due to the ongoing Middle East crisis.
The Hang Seng Index (HSI) shed 1.1%, or 286 points, to 25,280.82. The Hang Seng China Enterprises Index lost 0.8%, or nearly 66 points, to 8,447.25.
Worries over inflation and escalating military hostilities between the U.S. and Iran have driven bond yields higher globally, increasing the likelihood of interest rate hikes by central banks.
