Highland Copper Company (HI.V) has been approved for a $50 million grant by the Michigan Strategic Fund to advance its Copperwood project, the company said on Tuesday.
The funding will go towards infrastructure expenses related to the project: Highland Copper was awarded $45 million while Gogebic Country Road Commission was awarded $5 million for infrastructure improvements linked to Copperwood.
"Final approval of this US$50 million investment represents an important milestone for Copperwood and a strong endorsement of the Project's potential to deliver meaningful economic benefits to Michigan's Upper Peninsula while meeting the state's rigorous environmental standards," said Highland Chief Executive Officer Barry O'Shea.
Highland Copper shares were up C$0.015 at C$0.165 on the TSX Venture Exchange.
