GSK's ViiV Healthcare Highlights New Long-Acting Injectable Data on Cabenuva in HIV Treatment

By

GSK's (GSK) majority-owned ViiV Healthcare unit reported trial data that back Cabenuva's, also known as cabotegravir plus rilpivirine, potential as a long-acting injectable HIV treatment, according to a Wednesday statement.

The LATA trial's week 96 results demonstrated Cabenuva's superiority over daily oral therapy in 476 virologically suppressed adolescents of ages 12 to 19 years with HIV in certain African countries, GSK said. Meanwhile, data from the US-based OPERA cohort showed that Cabenuva maintained virologic suppression comparable with daily oral therapy in 6,800 adults with HIV, GSK added.

GSK also said six-month follow-up data from the phase 1 CLARITY trial supported a "more favorable" injection experience with long-acting cabotegravir, compared with lenacapavir, after a single dose.

The company is also investigating an intramuscular formulation of cabotegravir dosed three times a year for HIV prevention, with data to be presented at a future medical event, according to the statement.
