Gold Fields (GFI) said in a regulatory filing Monday that its Ghana unit has held several discussions with the government, with the talks now focusing on the terms of the mining lease renewals for the Tarkwa mine.
The outcome, timing and the terms remain subject to ongoing engagements with the Government of Ghana, according to the filing with the US Securities and Exchange Commission.
In response to media reports, Gold Fields said it is well-positioned to "continue operating and growing the Tarkwa mine beyond the current life of mine."
Shares of the company were down more than 9% in Monday trading.
