ExxonMobil (XOM) has awarded about $1.1 billion in contracts for equipment needed to develop the first phase of the Rovuma LNG project in northern Mozambique, as the project moves closer to a final investment decision.
The contracts were awarded on behalf of the project's partners, including Mozambique's ENH, China's CNPC, Italy's Eni, South Korea's KOGAS and XRG.
The deals cover key equipment for offshore gas production, including subsea systems, large production valves and pipelines.
The largest contract went to OneSubsea for subsea production systems, controls and umbilicals, with local work to be supported by Aker Solutions Mozambique. Other contracts went to Advanced Technology Valve, Corinth Pipeworks, Sumitomo Corporation of America and Zhejiang Jiuli Hi-Tech Metals.
ExxonMobil said awarding the contracts before a final investment decision will allow suppliers to begin manufacturing equipment that can take years to deliver, helping to keep the project on schedule.
