Exchange-Traded Funds, Equity Futures Higher Pre-Bell Monday Amid US-Iran Truce Hopes

The broad market exchange-traded fund SPDR S&P 500 ETF Trust (SPY) was up 0.5%, and the actively traded Invesco QQQ Trust (QQQ) was 0.2% higher in Monday's premarket activity as traders hope for a US-Iran truce.

US stock futures were higher, with S&P 500 Index futures up 0.5%, Dow Jones Industrial Average futures advancing 0.9%, and Nasdaq futures gaining 0.3% before the start of regular trading.

July's manufacturing data from S&P Global will be released at 9:45 am ET.

The ISM's manufacturing report and June's construction data will be released at 10 am ET.

In premarket activity, bitcoin was down by 1.4%. Among cryptocurrency ETFs, the cryptocurrency fund ProShares Bitcoin Strategy ETF (BITO) was 0.8% lower, Ether ETF (EETH) retreated 1.7%, and Bitcoin & Ether Market Cap Weight ETF (BETH) declined 0.1%.

Consumer

The State Street Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLP) was up 0.8%, the Vanguard Consumer Staples Index Fund ETF Shares (VDC) was down 0.2%, and the iShares US Consumer Staples ETF (IYK) was 0.9% lower. The State Street Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLY) increased 1.1%. The VanEck Retail ETF (RTH) and the State Street SPDR S&P Retail ETF (XRT) were inactive.

Alibaba (BABA) shares were up more than 4% pre-bell after the company said in a social media post that it launched Qwen3.8-Max, its latest large language model, and plans to release the model's open weights next week alongside Qwen3.8-27B.

Health Care

The State Street Health Care Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLV) advanced 1.1%, the Vanguard Health Care Index Fund (VHT) was up 0.8%, while the iShares US Healthcare ETF (IYH) increased 0.04%. The iShares Biotechnology ETF (IBB) was 0.4% higher.

AstraZeneca (AZN) stock was down more than 4% premarket, while Bristol Myers Squibb (BMY) gained 4% after Financial Times reported Sunday that the companies are in talks about a potential combination that would create a pharmaceutical company valued at nearly $400 billion.

Technology

The State Street Technology Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLK) retreated 0.5%, the iShares US Technology ETF (IYW) was flat, and the iShares Expanded Tech Sector ETF (IGM) was up 0.1%. Among semiconductor ETFs, the State Street SPDR S&P Semiconductor ETF (XSD) was 1.5% lower, while the iShares Semiconductor ETF (SOXX) fell by 2.4%.

Parsons (PSN) shares were up more than 2% in premarket activity after the company said it will serve as the lead designer for the Interstate 526 Long Point Road Interchange Improvements project in South Carolina.

Financial

The State Street Financial Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLF) advanced 0.8%. Direxion Daily Financial Bull 3X Shares (FAS) was up 2.3%, while its bearish counterpart, Direxion Daily Financial Bear 3X Shares (FAZ), was 2.3% lower.

KKR (KKR) shares were up more than 1% in early hours activity after the company entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Integer (ITGR) through affiliated funds in an all-cash transaction at an enterprise value of $5.70 billion. Integer stock was 2.6% higher.

Industrial

The State Street Industrial Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLI) advanced 0.6%, while the Vanguard Industrials Index Fund (VIS) was up 0.6% and the iShares US Industrials ETF (IYJ) was 0.4% higher.

Boeing (BA) stock was up more than 1% before the opening bell after the company said it has delivered Somon Air's first 737 Max aircraft.

Energy

The iShares US Energy ETF (IYE) was inactive, while the State Street Energy Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLE) was down by 1.2%.

Shell (SHEL) stock was down more than 1% before market open after the company agreed to sell its European onshore renewables portfolio to TotalEnergies (TTE). TotalEnergies' shares were 0.6% lower.

Commodities

Front-month US West Texas Intermediate crude oil fell by 6.8% to $78.92 per barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange. Natural gas was up 0.8% at $2.77 per 1 million British Thermal Units. The United States Oil Fund (USO) decreased by 6.8%, while the United States Natural Gas Fund (UNG) was 0.5% higher.

Gold futures for November advanced by 0.2% to $4,114.80 an ounce on the Comex. Silver futures gained by 0.7% to reach $58.18 an ounce. SPDR Gold Shares (GLD) was up by 0.1%, and the iShares Silver Trust (SLV) fell by 0.4%.

This was above the consensus estimate of a 0.8% gain in a Bloomberg-compiled survey.
