Annual inflation in the euro area increased to 3.3% in August from 2.9% in July, according to Eurostat flash estimates released Tuesday.
The latest reading is in line with the consensus estimate.
On a monthly basis, consumer prices were 0.4% higher.
Excluding energy, food, alcohol and tobacco, the annual inflation rate came in at 2.4%, lower than the previous and expected 2.5%. Month over month, core consumer prices edged up 0.2%.
