Annual inflation in the euro area declined to 2.8% in June from 3.2% in May, according to Eurostat flash estimates released Wednesday.
The latest reading is below the consensus estimate of 3%.
On a monthly basis, consumer prices ticked down 0.1%.
Excluding energy, food, alcohol and tobacco, the annual inflation rate came in at 2.4%, lower than the previous 2.6% and the expected 2.5%. Month over month, core consumer prices edged up 0.2%.
