Emvolon, a spinout from Massachusetts Institute of Technology has entered into a 7-year agreement to supply biomethanol and liquid fuels to trader Freepoint Commodities, it said in a statement on Thursday, making Freepoint its main offtaker.
Production volumes will ramp up towards 300,000 metric tons a year as Emvolon grows its portfolio, supplying Freepoint's global distribution network.
Freepoint has obtained co-investment participation rights through which it can provide equity and debt capital for Emvolon projects and clean energy assets at landfills, dairy farms and industrial gas sites, Emvolon's statement said.
The company's co-founder and CEO, Emmanuel Kasseris, said the deal secures both a buyer and capital for it to develop, with opportunities in the fast-growing methanol market and in sustainable aviation fuel.
